What’s your experience using freelancers/handymen for plumbing jobs?

Did they do a good job? What were you charged per hour including any “trip fee”?

I’ve had it with plumbing firms. I was charged $148. The bill included $59 for a 15 minute trip. The job required no parts and a half hour of actual work. My dentist charges less than this.
Nice to know the dumbass Plumbers and Pipefitters Union has invaded Yahoo.

Avoid Bathroom Plumbing Problems

We often take for granted our bathroom plumbing when it is working correctly, but once you start to have bathroom plumbing problems you start to appreciate the times when it was working correctly. There are many problems that can occur in your bathroom plumbing and some of these include:

-          Blocked drains

-          Broken drains and pipes

-          Blocked toilet

-          Dripping taps

-          Flooding

-          Clogged shower, bath and sink drains

The bathroom is a plumbing problem playground so it is important to know that things can go wrong and identify small problems before they become big problems. Some hints and tips for keeping bathroom plumbing problems at bay include:

-          Know where your water main valves are located at your home in order to avoid a major plumbing problem such as flooding your home. These water valves control the water flow throughout your  home so being able to turn them off means you can save your home from a great deal of water damage.

-          Check to see if your toilet is leaking by adding some food dye to the toilet’s tank and wait overnight. It the dye is in the toilet in the morning then you know you have a leak. By resolving this type of bathroom plumbing problem early you will not only have a toilet that is working properly but you will also be saving all that water.

-          Use a wet/dry vacuum to extract hair, soap and dirt that can build up in bathroom drains. This will help avoid a major bathroom plumbing problem like a major blockage or flooding.

Don’t let small bathroom plumbing problems turn into major bathroom plumbing problems. If you find yourself with a bathroom plumbing problem then call a reputable bathroom plumbing service that is helpful, reliable and professional.

Tackling A Diy Plumbing Repair

When it comes to a plumbing repair, you have two ways to go – calling in a professional plumber to take on the job or tackling it yourself with a DIY plumbing repair. Taking on a plumbing repair yourself can save you quite a bit of money but you have to have the time and tools to complete the repair successfully.

When venturing into the world of do-it-yourself plumbing repairs it’s best to take it slowly. Begin with smaller projects such as simple installs and relatively easy repairs such as fixing a leak, replacing a valve, or insulating a pipe.

However, completing a plumbing repair successfully requires some fundamental knowledge and a comprehensive tool kit that will ensure your preparedness in any situation. Some basic tools to include in your plumbing repair kit are the basic varieties of wrenches, caulk, tape, nuts and bolts, and other basic household tools that you would use for any project.

Additionally, be sure to include a flashlight – with extra batteries – as part of your plumbing repair tool kit. Attending to a plumbing repair project often requires you to work in a dimly lit environment. A flashlight will ensure that you have all the necessary light in your workspace.

In addition to your plumbing repair tool kit, you should also arm yourself with as much information as possible. Go online to learn step-by-step instructions for any do-it-yourself plumbing repair project. You can also visit your local home improvement store for the latest resources on plumbing repairs.

No matter what, you should always be sure to stay within your comfort zone. If you feel like a plumbing repair project is out of your league, do not hesitate to call in a professional plumber. Tackling a project that you are not prepared to handle will only cost you time and money in the long run.

But if you are successful in your plumbing repair you will have the added satisfaction of a job well done as well as cash saved in your pocket.

Dealing With A Plumbing Problem

Nothing can be more frustrating in a home than a plumbing problem. A leaky faucet or running toilet brings dollar signs to mind as you envision the recruitment of a high-priced plumber and time spent inconvenienced by in-home repairs.

But every plumbing problem does not immediately spell disaster. There are quite a few basic plumbing problems that almost all homeowners experience at one time or another. Therefore, it’s best to educate yourself on these potential issues so that you are prepared and knowledgeable to best tackle them should they arise.

The most common of our plumbing problems is that of an annoying leaky faucet. This can be the most aggravation to address if you don’t know how to fix it yourself; calling out a professional plumber for this mostly simple issue can cost you needlessly. But in order to determine if it’s a minor leak or a major pipe breakage, you must first turn off the main water source. If your leak continues then chances are you have a minor issue on your hands. If you actually hear water continuing to run then you may have a bigger problem.

Take time to examine all elements of a plumbing problem. Often the mere tightening of a bolt can eliminate your problem. Replacing simple parts that have eroded with age can also save you big bucks. If you’re unsure how to proceed go online for step-by-step instructions. Or you can visit your local home improvement store where you’ll likely find all the help that you need.

Arm yourself with the tools necessary for success. Call on help to make sure you have the proper inclusions in your tool box. Having what you need on hand increases your chances of completing the project successfully.

In the end, if you find that you’re over your head, don’t be afraid to call in the professionals. A plumber can actually wind up saving you money in the long run; if you do more damage trying to fix a problem yourself then you’ll eradicate any savings anyway.

A plumbing problem doesn’t have to leave you broke and confused. Simple steps can be taken to examine and diagnosis any common plumbing problem. With a little research and some time spent dedicated to the problem you may find that you’ve successfully solved your plumbing problem all on your own. And nothing is more self-satisfying then accomplishing a job with your own two hands.

Was I over charged for plumbing maintenance?

I was charged $1400 for four hours of changing fixtures. 3 toilets, 2 faucets, and a garbage disposal. (NO electrical work completed for garbage disposal, and ALL fixtures,dispose-all, and toilets we purchased previously. ALSO we rented a dumpster and the toilets only had to go as far as the front yard.) Was $1400 reasonable, or was I ripped off???
